Are there any allergens in your pot pies?
Yes. Immediately below the ingredient label on each of our pot pies, you’ll find a list of allergens. We use Wheat, Dairy and Eggs in all of our pot pies and in our Vegetable Curry and Black Pepper Steak pot pies we also use soy. We have a very strict allergen separation program at our plant so there shouldn’t be a concern about cross contamination, but for your information, our pot pies are made in a plant that produces products that contain Soy, Tree Nuts, Shellfish and Seafood.
Why do you pre-bake your pot pies – almost no one else does?
That’s a great question. You’re right – we do in fact fully bake each and every pot pie and it seems that we may be one of the few companies that do. Clearly, baking costs money, takes extra time, and makes it more difficult to produce a consistent looking product. We’re guessing these are the reasons why few companies make the effort. After all, they may argue, why make the effort if the consumer is going to cook the pot pie when they get home anyway. If in fact everyone baked their pot pies for 45 or so minutes in the oven instead of 3 or so minutes in a microwave they may be right. It actually takes oven baking – about 45 or so minutes for the flavors in a pot pie filing to really develop and for crusts to become light and flaky. We suspect that everyone would simply prefer using a microwave, so we make the effort on our end. More importantly, by fully cooking each and every pie to a minimum temperature of 165F we kill food borne bacteria. If there’s anything we take more seriously than the taste of our pot pies, it’s food safety.
Are there any Trans fats in your pot pies?
All of our pot pies contain 0 grams of Trans fat per serving.
Are the ingredients in your pot pie "all-natural"?
Yes. This is something that we are especially proud of. All of the proteins (e.g. chicken, beef, etc.) used in our pot pies are “all-natural” which means that they are among other things, minimally processed. That is to say, for example, we never “pump” our chickens with water and flavor. Moreover, we buy our poultry and beef only from sources that comply with farm animal and meat processing standards which restrict the use of: antibiotics, supplemental growth hormones, animal by-products in feed, and in the case of our natural Angus beef, the amount of land used for grazing. Additionally, none of our pot pies contain preservatives or artificial ingredients. There is one exception, however. We use wine reductions in some of our pot pies. Even though the wines we purchase are all-natural, it is non uncommon for grapes to have naturally occurring sulfites and for vineyards to use processing aids that may contain sulfites.

Are all of your pot pies made in a USDA inspected food plant?
Yes.
Do you use MSG or preservatives in your pies?
Absolutely not.
I noticed that you sell a vegetarian pot pie. Is that pot pie also vegan?
Unfortunately, no. We use dairy products in the pie crust.
How do you get your pie crust to be so light and flaky?
Instead of mixing flour with hydrogenated soybean oil and dairy product solids, we use butter, and ultra-pasteurized whole eggs. Secondly, our dough making process takes days not minutes. We mix our dough in small batches – ingredients are added slowly like our butter which is creamed so that everything combines perfectly. Then we allow it to rest and cool overnight which helps to develop flavor and texture. The next day, our dough is hand sheeted and folded, then rested – exactly the way a croissant is made – that’s why our crusts are so light and flaky – even in a microwave oven.
I bought one of your pot pies from a refrigerated deli-case my supermarket. Do I need to heat and eat it right away?
You can keep the pot pie refrigerated for 3 days following the sell-by date on the package or, if you wish, you can place it in your freezer for up to six months. Please remember to cook it thoroughly.
Are any of your pot pies Kosher or Halal?
Unfortunately, no. We make our pot pies with dairy products such as milk and sour cream and we make most of our fillings with proteins such as beef and poultry.
I noticed that the pot pie I bought was oval shaped. I'm used to perfectly round shaped pot pies. Is the oval shape normal?
Yes. Cravery pot pies are not machine made so they will not look like other perfectly shaped, mass produced round-pot pies. The oval shape is due to our using only freshly made dough that naturally shrinks when it is baked.
I noticed that the filling in one of the pot pies I bought erupted through the top of the pie. Is that normal?
Yes. Don’t be surprised when you first look at a Cravery Pot Pie. They aren’t perfectly round, they don’t always look the same and the fillings sometimes vent though the top (and sometimes the sides) of the pie when we bake them. Actually our fillings vent because we hand-cut the tops of our pot pies before placing them into our ovens which allows them to fully and evenly cook.
